RASL Environment Analysis Tool

RASL have developed a bespoke radiation environment tool which enables rapid generation of TID and TNID environments for any type of mission. The main feature of this tool is that it allows for missions with multiple phases such as raising and lowering to be analysed fast and accurately, allowing for quick production of environment specifications and for comparison of multiple scenarios to aid in trade off analysis.

  • TID environments (dose vs shielding for full mission and broken down by each mission phase

  • TNID (displacement damage) environments (dose vs shielding for full mission and broken down by each mission phase

  • Atomic Oxygen degradation analysis for materials over the mission profile

The tool outputs the total mission dose depth curve (dose vs shielding) for the detailed CONOPS entered and also the dose depth curve for the full mission duration at the maximum altitude (which is often a pessimistic approach taken for complex mission scenarios). It is clear there is a large reduction in the dose when the mission is looked at in detail

The tool also outputs the mission dose accumulated for each phase of the mission, both as a percentage of the full mission dose (as per the plot to the right) and as individual dose depth curves for each phase. This aids in the development of CONOPS which balance radiation risk with required mission goals
